Magnetic Design Engineer is responsible for FEM and micromagnetic simulations for magnetic write head design, including advancing microwave assisted magnetic recording (MAMR), researching and developing dynamic magnetic recording phenomena including spintronic devices, performing failure analysis on newly developed products, and generating corrective action. This position is located in Milpitas, California, closely interacts with wafer manufacturing at same site and backend manufacturing in China, and reports to the Sr. Director of Head Design

Researches, develops, and delivers next generation write head designs for magnetic recording Develops strategies for design integration using detailed modeling with data and statistical analysis
Integrates the fundamental properties of nanoscale dimensionality and magnetic recording head phenomena into product designs
Conducts failure analysis on newly developed processes or products and recommends corrective action if necessary
Designs and conducts experiments, analyzes data, and develops recommendations for advancing the technology, improving the performance, or reducing cost based on test results
Develops and delivers appropriate timeline and process for integrating new products into the manufacturing line
Partners with other groups and departments, including process and manufacturing engineering to develop and deliver products and programs
Creates reports, charts, or graphs on an ad-hoc or routine basis
Responds to inquiries from other team members, managers, or departments
Adheres to all safety policies and procedures as required
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science, and/or equivalent relevant experience
Experience in modeling, electronic devices, and device characterization
Three years of hands-on experience working in the magnetic recording head, hard disk drive, or semiconductor industry
Strong Experience with MATLAB, JMP, or Python
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of magnetic recording heads, hard disk drives, or semiconductor industry principles, practices, and techniques
Knowledge of wafer fabrication processing techniques, including process characterization and integration techniques and practices
Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications to create spreadsheets, Word documents, and presentations
Knowledge and ability to use MATLAB, JMP, and/or Python to create models, to perform statistical analysis, and to design devices.
Able to analyze data, create various reports, and recommend corrective action
Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees, management, customers and partners.
Able to work productively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management
Able to comply with all safety policies and procedures
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
Demonstrated problem-solving and trouble shooting skills
Flexible and able to prioritize

The Magnetic Design Engineer works primarily in an office environment from Monday thru Friday. The schedule may be altered from time-to-time to meet business or operational needs; may travel from building-to-building as needed. Infrequently works in a class 100 ESD sensitive wafer manufacturing facility; wears a cleanroom (bunny) suit, including hood, gloves, safety glasses, booties, and mask. May be exposed to hazardous conditions, chemicals, fumes, and/or gases during the course of work day; may be exposed to loud noise. Stands and walks; performs various fine grasping movements, bends, and twists; operates a computer and enters information using a keyboard, operates a telephone, and other office equipment. May occasionally be required to push, pull, or lift up to 10 pounds.
