BASIC FUNCTION: Equity centered leader who designs, develops, implements and articulates with all stakeholders the district's vision for teaching and learning including the curriculum and best practices that support student success. Collaboratively leads school sites and district personnel in the development, preparation, and evaluation of educational plans that relate to programs and personalizing learning for all students; maintains a high degree of collaboration and communication with school sites and district office personnel; implements, administers and/or monitors district, state and federal programs and other instructional support areas as directed. Is responsible for ensuring the execution of educational plans and compliance with state and federal programs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Instruction, Curriculum, and Innovation Coordinates curriculum development as defined by the Board of Education and the Superintendent and anchored in culturally responsive teaching, project based learning, applied learning, and deeper learning practices. Supports the overall development of secondary programming, including adult education. Specifically leads the unpacking and implementation of content standards, benchmark activities, and performance based assessment in core curricular areas. This includes incorporating new state standards (specifically digital literacy or computer science standards)and guidance as well as the development of new pathways for learning. Collaborates with stakeholders to increase parent participation and parent education across the district and -at all educational levels. Organizes the selection and/or development of district assessment/testing. Coordinates textbook selection -process ensuring alignment with state standards and district goals. Develops, coordinates, and/or assists in designing professional development opportunities for staff in relation to district and program goals for student achievement. Provides support and guidance to principals in areas of instructional leadership, program implementation and management of school level plans. Assists in implementing school plans as they relate to special programs, including but not limited to state -guidelines, conducting classroom visitations, reviewing and monitoring achievement of target students. Articulate and integrate curriculum development activities with other departments and agencies, as needed. Data Driven Decision Making Monitors student data to determine program and curriculum effectiveness and makes recommendations for continued curricular improvement in these areas that yield improved outcomes for all learners. Develops and integrates specific data for use by sites for improvement of programs and for reports to the local school communities. Develops, facilitates and monitors implementation of the District's Multi-Tiered Systems and Supports (MTSS) model including the Student Study Team (SST) process, tracking of student progress and monitoring of significant disproportionality. Compliance and Accountability Supervises/evaluates learning and curriculum development staff, categorically funded curriculum programs, and staff secretaryand site administrators, as assigned. Facilitates the operation of district level committees ensuring that they function within the prescribed guidelines. Develops and implements district level educational plans that relate to specially funded programs such as the LEAP, EIA, SPSA, Homeless Program, etc. Supervises the categorical programs, including screening, curriculum, evaluation and parent participation. Prepares and presents reports to staff, Board of Education and other groups or committees, as needed. Responsible for filing the district consolidated application, other grants, district and mandated reports, and resolving compliance issues. Other Professional Responsibilities Assumes responsibilities for special projects and programs as needed or assigned. Develops and maintains professional competence through positive participation in appropriate training or conference; study of research findings, professional reading and graduate course work. Performs related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS: Five (5) years minimum teaching experience Administrative experience is preferred Knowledge of curriculum theory and practice Master's Degree, Education preferred Demonstrated leadership, organization and management skills KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Planning, organization and direction of a curriculum program. Curriculum theory and practice including culturally relevant teaching practices, project based learning California Common Core State Standards Oral and written communication skills. Principles and practices of management. Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures. District organization, operations, policies and objectives. Policies, objectives and terminology of assigned programs. Relevant research, emerging developments and mandates in the field, including the CSTP -and state program initiatives in assigned areas. Legal compliance matters, applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures. Policies, objectives and terminology of related programs. ABILITY TO: Plan, organize and administer a curriculum program. Innovate, iterate and problem solve creatively. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Meet schedules and timelines. Work independently with little direction. Plan and organize work. Prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports. Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
